“GUESS WHAT, CHICKEN BUTT!”

“GUESS WHAT, CHICKEN BUTT!”

Where do you begin once you’ve already started?
Halfway in the game
And it’s all spinning too quickly to call a time out

Headaches and heartaches aside, it all goes well
As long as I can stay out of my own way

The guy on my shoulder, shouting – DO SOMETHING!
The real me – okay with the resting…
The accomplishment of doing nothing

I crave check boxes and purpose
Bullet points to ease the pain of being halfway in
                With a score of zero

Then my daughters nestle themselves in that God-given space in my side
My son’s eyes light up when he catches sight of me
                Through his bleary eyed gaze
My wife is pleased with me – and I can see it in her smile
                Soft and understanding
Just sharing her life with mine, is enough

And suddenly I’ve hit SELECT ALL
And every task is marked COMPLETE
And self worth takes over the unsure
And strength returns
Ability to give outweighs my need to receive

And this game of Guess What? Chicken Butt!
Seems like the greatest accomplishment I’ve achieved all year
And it is
